Presidents Message – July 2016

Last month’s chapter workshop (“Building Trust in Coaching Relationships”) presented by educator, speaker and master executive coach Alana Peters was fantastic and a great way to kick off our summer break. We had a strong turnout and not only was the session informative and provided new tools with which to approach our work as coaches, Alana was a lot of fun as facilitator. In my opinion, the fun is as critical as the learning.

While our chapter takes its annual pause from hosting events in July and August, there are still lots of opportunities for learning and development. I want to share those with you here with a few links. If you are progressing toward an ICF credential or planning to renew one, there are certainly opportunities to continue to earn required CCEUs over the summer.

Remember that participation in at least 40 hours of Continuing Coach Education (CCE) completed in the 3 years since an initial award of an ICF credential (or since your last credential renewal) is required. At least 24 hours of CCE must be in the area of Core Competencies with the balance in Resource Development.

Also, beginning in 2016, ICF credential holders are required to demonstrate completion of at least 3 Continuing Coach Education units (CCEU) in the area of Coaching Ethics to be eligible for renewal of their ICF credential. The following link provides access to the ICF Ethics Course, which is free of charge to members. Regardless of whether or not you are pursuing an ICF credential, the course is a valuable one for all coaches (and the cost is unbeatable.)

Recorded Virtual Education sessions are also available through the ICF website and are considered self-study for the purpose of renewing your ICF Credential. You may count up to 16 hours of self-study toward Resource Development for the renewal of your ICF credential.

Finally, did you know that you can register for ICF events and webinars conducted by other Chapters all around the world? ICF Global members can go on the ICF website and view all the sessions that are being offered.

While most ICF Chapters scale back on events during July and August, activity and work continues as we look to September as the month to return to the important work of supporting members in growing their expertise and businesses. For the fall, we will be offering chapter events in September, October and November. Please check the website frequently for those announcements.

We will also be requesting feedback from our members again as it’s been two years since our last formal member survey. It’s important that you get good value for your membership dollars and it’s certainly time to hear from you again to ensure we provide that. Look for the online survey in late September and plan to make your needs and wishes known to your chapter leaders.

Speaking of chapter leaders, we will also be announcing the positions open on the ICF Edmonton Charter Chapter Board of Directors for 2017 well in advance of the Annual General Meeting in November. As part of the ICF Global community, our Board should be proactively leading the local advancement of the coaching profession in Edmonton and surrounding communities. We need expertise to do that and we take the recruitment process and fulfillment duties for this Board seriously. As we carry out the 2015-2017 Strategic Plan and begin developing the framework for the next 3 year intent, it will be essential to have a strong, committed and collaborative team of leaders who are enthusiastic about serving. Please stay tuned for an announcement on Board and Committee opportunities for 2017.
